Digital contract management platform.
Our client was an established industry body with more than 5,000 members. A core member service was eDocs, a digital contract template platform that had become a critical driver of membership value. Research indicating this influenced renewal decisions for a significant proportion of members. However, the existing eDocs platform, built six years earlier, on proprietary off-the-shelf software with a custom XML-based domain language, was approaching end-of-life.
Buckham & Duffy was engaged as lead delivery partner to design and deliver a full rebuild of the eDocs platform. User research was conducted across the membership base. Key pain points included difficult XML-based authoring, lack of version tracking, absence of mobile access and limited ability to preview contracts visually.
These insights were translated into a detailed business case and a ground-up platform rebuild was designed using modern, extensible architecture:
- 01Laravel-based backend with service-oriented design and RESTful APIs
- 02Vue.js single-page application frontend with responsive design
- 03MySQL relational database supporting reporting and auditability
- 04AWS multi-tier infrastructure using EC2, S3, and RDS
- 05Infrastructure-as-code implemented via Chef Automate.
The platform introduced interactive, web-based contract generation with real-time preview, mobile access, and a cohesive design-to-execution workflow. Our comprehensive training and change management supported adoption across a highly diverse user population.
